Le Panier, Marseille's oldest district, refers to an area of Marseille located in the 2ᵉ arrondissement, split between three administrative districts: Hôtel-de-Ville, Les Grands-Carmes and La Joliette. The north bank of the Vieux Port is the oldest part of the historic settlement site of the Greek colony of Massalia in 600 BC.
