On the banks of the Garonne, the Chartrons district of Bordeaux offers itself a prime location between the prestigious esplanade of Quinconces and the Public Garden. Marked by its wine trade and then enriched by its maritime exchanges, its streets bring together the sumptuous residences of former merchants with wine warehouses. A village in the city, just like the suburb it once formed, this mecca for antique dealers and merchants condenses Bordeaux history.
Today, traders are still in Les Chartrons (after a short break during the 20th century). They were joined, in the alleys, by antique dealers. Notre Dame Street, which extends its roadway over 700 metres, has about forty of them. An emblematic street in the district, it has seen the art galleries and decoration shops flourish over time. These small businesses that stamp it like a BOBO district do not contradict its history. A history of the district, always dear to the hearts of its inhabitants. Many of them consider themselves to be Chartronnais long before they became Bordeaux residents!
