Around
A central district just a stone's throw from Saint-Charles station, the BELCUNCE district has undergone a number of restructurings that have turned it into a lively, mixed-use area.
A working-class district, most of the houses are 17th-century. It's a lively place to live, close to La Canebière, République and the Old Port. A district where everything is close at hand.
Once a district for sailors, black marketeers and immigrants, it has seen the birth and rise of some of the most famous names in music-hall with the Alcazar.
Belsunce then gradually evolved, offering a diverse range of architecture. These include the Building, built on the ruins of the Nouvelles Galeries, and the Alcazar, now a major municipal library, with its contemporary architecture, but still with its masterful entrance and famous marquise, a blend of the ancient and the modern.
