Around

Montparnasse is a district with creative roots.
Penniless sculptors, painters and composers flocked to Montparnasse. These anonymous artists gained notoriety and today the district's cemetery has tombstones bearing the names of Sartre and Baudelaire. Today, the Montparnasse district combines tradition and modernity. It is known for its chain shops, crêperies and historic bistros once frequented by writers like Hemingway. Jean-Paul Sartre is buried in the Montparnasse Cemetery, while the Catacombs of Paris are ossuaries in former mining tunnels. Museums include the Bourdelle Museum, filled with sculptures, and the General Leclerc Museum, dedicated to the Second World War. Here you can take a leisurely stroll and try to discover hidden artists' studios. Finally, there are always good reasons to visit the Montparnasse Tower. The views it offers of the city are fascinating.
