What should I do in the event of breakage or accidental damage during my rental period?

Whether you rent a property as your main residence (long-term rental) or as a second home (medium-term rental), you must have multi-risk home insurance (MRH) covering, in particular, rental third-party liability.

This insurance is obligatory and must be taken out before you move into the property. For more information, visit our page Insurance & security.

In the event of accidental damage:
  • Report the claim immediately to your home insurance, explaining the circumstances and providing photos if possible
  • Your insurance will pay for the damage according to the cover provided in your policy
Security deposit:

In the event of damage, the landlord may withhold all or part of the security deposit, depending on the amount of repairs not covered by the insurance.
